Areas we cover
Where we work across Somerset, Devon and the South West.
We are based in Taunton and most of our work is within an hour's drive. For larger or specialist conservation projects we travel further into Devon and Dorset.
Somerset
Taunton
Our home town and the centre of most of our work. Listed cottages, churchyard walls, town-centre conservation-area properties and the soft local lias and sandstone all feature here regularly.
Wellington
Red sandstone cottages and farm buildings on the edge of the Blackdown Hills. Most of our work in Wellington is undoing twentieth-century cement pointing and re-rendering in breathable lime.
Wiveliscombe
An old market town on red Devonian sandstone, surrounded by farms with cob outbuildings. We work regularly in Wiveliscombe and the villages around it — Bathealton, Fitzhead, Milverton, Chipstable.
Bridgwater
Brick, lias and rubble masonry across Bridgwater and the Levels. Many of the older houses in the town centre need careful repointing in soft lime to suit the local brick.
Glastonbury & Street
Lias stone everywhere. Listed buildings, churchyard walls and farm buildings around Glastonbury and Street are a regular part of our calendar.
Wells
Cathedral-city stonework, ecclesiastical conservation and listed townhouses. We work to specifications written by SPAB-trained surveyors and historic-buildings architects.
Frome & Bruton
Stone-built market towns on the edge of the Mendips. A lot of grant-aided listed work in this corner of east Somerset.
Yeovil & Sherborne fringe
Ham stone and Doulting limestone, mostly on listed and conservation-area properties.
Bridgwater, Burnham & the Levels
Lower-lying brick and rubble across the Somerset Levels. Damp management is at least as important as the mortar itself in this area.
Devon & beyond
Tiverton
Cob and red sandstone in mid Devon. Cob repair is a major part of our work here, and most jobs involve removing cement render before any new work begins.
Crediton & Mid Devon villages
Cob-built cottages and farm buildings. Sectional rebuilds, breathable lime renders and limewash finishes.
Honiton & East Devon
Cob, flint and chert masonry. Conservation work to listed cottages and churchyard walls.
Dorset (Sherborne & Beaminster)
Ham stone and Forest Marble. Selected listed and grant-aided projects.
